What is 'Bright Bites'?
The makers of Aquafresh are pleased to sponsor the Bright Bites initiative, which has been developed by Dentaid with funding from the Department of Health.
'Bright Bites' is a learning tool designed to match the requirements of Science Unit 3A of the National Curriculum for Key Stage 2.
The three elements of this science unit (3a) are:
- Oral health
- Diet (in relation to teeth and eating)
- Animals
This learning tool can be teacher led in a classroom environment or used as a stand-alone resource by children away from the school environment.
Dentaid have developed a CD-ROM and accompanying resources to form a 'Teacher & Pupil Resource Pack'.
The packs have been sent to every Primary school science co-ordinator in England free of charge.
The resource packs and CD-Box versions of 'Bright Bites' are available to purchase from the Bright Bites website, enabling retailers and general dental practitioners to use the resource and sell through retail outlets and dental practices.
What's inside the pack?
- An interactive CD-ROM
- 12 activity sheets
- A teaching guide
- The interactive CD-ROM enables children to test their learning through informal games and more structured pre and post learning questioning. When they have completed the programme, children can print off a Certificate of Achievement.
The central character of the CD-ROM is called Charlie. He shows children around his house and uses everyday items to communicate oral health messages such as toothbrushing instruction etc. Charlie has a large garden full of pets and children can investigate what the animals eat and what their teeth look like. Charlie introduces the users to his pen pal, Dafine, who lives in Africa. Children can learn about Dafine's morning routine and school life.
The activity sheets have been designed to help children consolidate their newly acquired knowledge through practical application.
